Pretty Berkshires Weekend

February 22, 2012

We went to Mepal Manor in New Marlborough, Massachusetts this weekend for our first vacation with baby.  It was a good trial run since it was only 3 days and we learned about traveling with a four-month-old baby.  The best part was that he goes to sleep everynight at 6pm so we were able to go to nice dinners on both nights and baby just slept right through them, right next to us in his stroller!  He was so quiet and serene that a few people asked if there was really a baby in there.  Way to go, baby!  The highlights of our weekend were:

(1) Our beautiful hotel, Mepal Manor, where the innkeeper Elizabeth is just he loveliest woman and always has a nice story to tell you and great outing recommendations.

(2) Our visit to Mass MOCA,  the contemporary art museum in North Adams, Massachusetts that displays contemporary art collections in the coolest manner, all around an old paper mill with buildings connected by covered bridges, and with huge windows that allow light to stream in naturally and naturally change the lighting effects as the day progresses.

(3) Dinner at Olde Inn on the Green.  People drive from all over the northeast corridor to visit this dining establishment, which is lit only by candles.  We had the chef’s tasting menu and it was hands down one of the best meals of my life.  I’ll be dreaming of the beet pastry with honey and goat cheese and berry sauce as well as the succulent lamb  for years to come.

(4) Lunch at the Southfield General Store.  Delicious specials daily made with local farm ingredients, all in a cute country ambiance.
