Barcelona: Must Do

February 28, 2011

I went to Barcelona for President’s Day weekend.  We were 7 young ladies there for a Hen Weekend.  My friend Sharon, the bachelorette or “hen”, is getting married in October.  Barcelona is really the best city for the most perfect, carefree, picturesque, and fun girls weekend!!  We stayed at the Hotel Pulitzer, which had small but comfortable modern rooms and bathrooms, and was perfectly located at the crossroads of Barri Gotic and Eixample, at Plaza Catalunya.  We ate at some amazing restaurants which I’ll discuss later.  Here are a few really fun things we did:

1. Went to an FC Barcelona football match.  They played against Bilbao.  FC Barcelona won 2-1!  It was awesome.

2. Visited the Picasso Museum.  The more intriguing sites in that neighborhood, El Born, were all the cute boutiques on Calle Rec, Calle Flassaders, and Calle Argenteria.

3. Toured the Gaudi sites.  My favorites were Park Guell and Sagrada Familia.  Sagrada Familia is a building like no other, almost like a giant drip castle you’d make on the beach, with the most stunning stain glass windows reflecting all colors of light in every direction, and uniquely shaped columns that seem to extend forever into the sky.

4. Danced at the Port Olympic clubs!  We loved CDLC, and another hot one is Opium.  We also went to the club filled with local students, Sutton. The scene at the port was very international, fun, and good-looking.  The party really starts at 1, but gets hottest at 3am, and goes until 6!  So get your beauty sleep the night before.

In preparation for a Barcelona trip, you can read: Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon and Zorro by Isabel Allende.

You can watch the films:  L’Auberge Espanol and All About My Mother.
